The Heart of the Wood by Martin Riley.

To coincide with the upcoming performances of our new musical theatre production, "The Heart of the Wood", our librettist Martin Riley has been working with young people from schools in and around the Dover area to produce a wonderful, illustrated book to accompany the work.

Over the past few months, Martin and our Education Director, David Burridge, have had the opportunity to talk to ex-miners from the Betteshanger and Snowdon Collieries as well as visiting schools in the areas that grew and expanded to provide accommodation for the employees of those the two former mining communities.

The result is that not only have we had some fantastic input from people who have had first hand experience working in the mines in and around East Kent but that many of the children who have helped us to develop the story line and produce the wonderful illustrations for the book are also from families who were part of that mining community until the closure of the sites in the late 1980's.

The book costs £8.00 + £2.00 postage and packing. To buy copies please email our Treasurer, bridget.burridge@gmail.com , to request the bank details to make a direct transfer or alternatively you can send a cheque to Bridget Burridge, The Big Reveal, Sparrow Hatch, Barnsole Road, Staple, Canterbury.
